Smuggling of radioactive items intercepted

According to the Federal Customs Service of Russia, one of the Yantar radiation monitors installed at Domodedovo Airport, detected an object with background radiation several thousand times higher than the established standards. The object was carried in the personal luggage of a passenger arriving from Dubai (UAE).

Further inspection revealed that the increased background radiation came from metal jars wrapped in lead foil containing paper pieces of playing cards used to mark playing cards.
