Exercises to eliminate the radioactive threat in Murmansk Port

According to information from the North-West Customs Administration, interdepartmental exercises to interdict smuggling of nuclear and radioactive materials across the sea customs border were successfully held at the Murmansk Customs. According to the plan of the exercise, radioactive cargo arrived at the port of Murmansk by rail for further illegal export by sea outside the Russian Federation. Mineral fertilizers with an increased level of natural radiation were used as a cover.

During the exercise, the Yantar Radiation Monitor was triggered. Further inspection of the alarming railway car with the MKC-A03 Handheld Radiation Monitor allowed detecting and identifying the source of radioactive radiation.

All border checkpoints of the Russian Federation and most CIS countries are equipped with our Integrated Nuclear and Radioactive Materials Monitoring Systems. Round-the-clock radiation monitoring of all goods and vehicles passing through the state border checkpoints makes it possible to prevent the smuggling of radioactive substances.
